about
The song was born from an appreciation for the “here and now.” I remember talking with my father-in-law one night and him saying, “enjoy every second.” He seemed so earnest and genuine when he was saying it to me. And it stuck. It’s truly apropos to the time we’re living in, but it’s an ethos that we should heed all the time. I wrote the song by myself, with the chorus being the bedrock; the chorus was the first thing I wrote for the song, and it holds the most weight for me lyrically, especially the two lines: “nobody’s got a day guaranteed,” and “as you age time is gathering speed.” I think they both ring true universally.
You should take your wife out dancing
And remind her that she’s always been
The North Star, The lighthouse that guide you back in
And You should call up your old man
See if he’s up for having a beer
Do it while you can you don’t know when he’ll no longer be here
You should know
nobody’s Got a day guaranteed
You should know
As you age time is gathering speed
You can’t slow down, you can’t turn it around, nobody’s gonna get a rerun
Make it count on the next ride around the sun
You should ask for forgiveness
and forgive others in return,
no sense in building a bridge
just to let it burn
Don’t fret over some treasure,
be grateful for the journey you’re on, there’s nothing that you can take with you when your time is gone
You should know
nobody’s Got a day guaranteed
You should know
As you age time is gathering speed
You can’t slow down, you can’t turn it around, nobody’s gonna get a rerun
Make it count on the next ride around the sun
